Famous Indian Designers in the Fashion World and Their Importance in the Industry
When we think of high fashion, the first names that come to mind are the likes of Chanel; Versace; Valentino and Gucci. However, there are many names who are rarely spoken about but still make massive debuts at huge events such as London Fashion Week. Consequently, at Anunita, London fashion designers, we’ve come together to discuss famous Indian designers and their importance in women’s fashion.
Vidhi Wadwani’s women’s fashion label personifies femininity and is recognised for her use of bold cuts and seamless drapes. She recently made her debut showcasing her Solistice collection at London Fashion Week, 2018. Her main focus was making the collection “season-less” with a mix and match of layers, deconstructed jackets, metallics and applique. In addition, her label takes inspiration from traditional Asian fashion incorporating intricate detailing and delicate textures.
Manish Malhotra is an Asian fashion designer who is most commonly known for designing stunning frocks for Bollywood’s biggest stars. However, he has also designed for major Hollywood household names such as Reese Witherspoon, Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell.
Pernia Qureshi is one of India’s biggest style icons and entrepreneurs, previously working with Harper’s Bazaar, Elle and Conde Nast as a stylist in both New York and New Delhi. She has also ventured into designing costumes for some of Bollywood’s most popular films, making her a true inspiration when it comes to women’s fashion.
Making his debut back in Lakme Fashion Week in 2011, Nikhil Thampi is living proof that you don’t need to be formally trained to make it big in the fashion industry. He’s popular for incorporating western twists in Indian fashion to create new style clothes. His designs are often seen at major events and even Bollywood films!
Even at age 73, Ritu Kumar still has the cutting edge to compete with those emerging in the industry, remaining one of Asian fashion’s most respected designers. Her clothing line covers a broad range including everything from traditional design bridal outfits to western dresses.
